Teams confirmed for 2022 College Rugby Association of America’s Fall Classic in Charlotte, December 3-4 | Latest Rugby News

The College Rugby Association of America (CRAA) has confirmed the 2022 Fall Classic, December 3-4 at the Mecklenberg Sportsplex in Mathews, NC.

Headed by the D1 Elite Women’s Games and the D1 Women’s and D2 Fall Games, the packed weekend of rugby will also feature two Men’s D1A Bowl Championships. All matches will be broadcast LIVE for free on The Rugby Network.

The CRAA has partnered with The Rugby Network (TRN) to provide free-to-air streaming of the championship weekend, with the CRAA “Match of the Week” in 2023. Completing its final definition of Major League Rugby, TRN is delighted to expand its rugby offering and bring the school game to the fore.

“Last year’s championship event was an incredible event for CRAA and the competing teams, an experience we are excited to expand on this December. Our goal is to provide student-athletes with professional experience and provide announcement to all fans, alumni and observers of participating organizations,” said Paul Keeler, CRAA Chairman. “Partnering with The Rugby Network for our championship and upcoming match of the week is to bring the best of college rugby to alumni and fans near and abroad. “

The Women’s brackets have some of the best that college rugby has to offer. From spring to fall, the D1 Elite Women’s National Championship will feature a 2021 champion Lindenwood University against University of Life, the fifth consecutive year the Lions will face the Running Eagles in the season finale. The D1 Fall Women’s Cup will include the 2021 Champion US Naval Academy against State of Utahwhile the D2 Fall Women’s Championship will see the winners of Temple vs 2021 Champions Vassar take the winner of the second semifinal between Colorado School of Mines and US Coast Guard. The D2 semi-finals will not be broadcast by The Rugby Network, however the Championship Final will be on Sunday.

Olivia Benzan-Daniel, CRAA Women’s Rugby President said: “We continue to raise the standard of play for these championship games that bring out the athlete and fans of college rugby. at the Fall Classic Championship Weekend it’s a highlight of the autumn rugby season.”

The Mint City Bowl features the Colorado State University Rams from the D1A Rocky Mountain Conference facing the D1A premiership, the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats are undefeated in SCRC D1AA this Fall 2022 season and finish their schedule with a tie against Big10 runner-up Ohio State. After the Ohio State game, the Wildcats were invited to test their mettle against the 19th-ranked Rams in the Fall Classic.

The Hornet’s Nest Bowl sees two D1A teams face off in Ohio State University and Penn State University. The Buckeye finished 2nd in the Big10 Championship (ranked #17) while the Nittany Lions are playing in the Rugby East Conference this fall. The two teams will meet for the first time this season in the Fall Classic.

The Mecklenburg Sportsplex is a large sports complex and park located in Matthews, North Carolina and has hosted the CRAA Fall Classic in the past. Located in southeast Charlotte, the venue features 12 full-size fields supported by a 5,000-seat stadium.

8×8 Sports, an American rugby apparel company, is a “named partner” of the overall event and has also sponsored the CRAA Spring Championships in Houston, TX. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this event.

The College Rugby Association of America (CRAA) is the USA Rugby sanctioned league that includes the major divisions within Men’s and Women’s Collegiate rugby. This competition includes Men’s D1A, Women’s D1 Elite, Women’s D1 and Women’s D2.
